So for September we made the Denham Jacket by Merchant & Mills Patterns.
We made the Denham Jacket in our 8oz brushed cotton twill in the colour Prussian Blue. This is the perfect fabric for this jacket and will be an ideal transitional piece in my wardrobe for the weather here in the UK.
I didn't make the lined jacket as I feel this brushed twill has good structure and it didn't require it and it would have made the YouTube sew-along far to lengthy! The pattern does however, give full details to line the jacket with separate pattern pieces for the lining should you wish to.
Your pattern markings and notches and tailors tacks are always important but especially for this garment to ensure everything aligns correctly, especially your buttons and buttonholes. So a little time spent ensuring you have marked all these accurately, will be very well spent!
Of course I have done a YouTube sew-along to help anyone who would benefit from the support in the construction of the Denham Jacket.
As it is a considerable garment to sew I have had to split the video into 2 parts, the first showing the main body construction, including welt pockets, and the sleeves. The second part details the collar and facings, hem, buttonholes and topstitch finishing. Please see the links below for the videos:
So I don't know about you, but I am definitely thinking about my Autumn/ Winter wardrobe now the weather here in the UK is definitely on the change!
So with that in mind for October 2024's Monthly Make I will be making the I Am Patterns Nout Trousers - these are a sailor style trouser and made up in a cotton twill or denim are perfect for the coming months!
Of course I will record a sew-along to help anyone that may benefit from it!
Happy Sewing!!
Theresa
