So this month for September I decided to make the Helene Jeans by Anna Allen Patterns in our gorgeous heavyweight 14oz Denim in Dark Indigo. This pattern is a vintage style Jean recommending heavyweight denim, and I chose to make them in the straight leg version.
This was a toile for me of these jeans and there are a few further adjustments I would make on another pair to perfect the fit. I did allow an extra seam allowance at the side seam to allow me to grade from hip to waist as I usually need to do that. However, I need to slightly scoop out the crotch at the back for my next pair - I must have a low slung bottom!! as I often have to do this adjustment, so should have anticipated this, but they were described as a loose fitting crotch so I decided not to adjust prior to making them, and although they are loose fitting in the crotch - I do need to scoop out the back crotch by about a cm but reduce the front crotch by about 2-3cm. This is all a process of getting your perfect pair of fitting custom made jeans!!
My favourite part of making jeans has to be the topstitching - particularly the back pocket design. You can do many different designs to make your jeans your own personal style including stitching a design in metallic thread, sashiko designs, embroidery, or applique - the choice is yours to make yours your own!

For October 2023 I will be making the Vikisews Cameron Skirt in our 12oz Organic Sanded Cotton Twill in the colour Painters Navy.
Happy Sewing!
