The Grainline Studio Reed Skirt - Sewing tips and hacks!

I made the Grainline Studio Reed Skirt in our gorgeous Merchant and Mills Ecru 12oz Organic Sanded Twill, and used Prym Jeans buttons for the hardware.

By the pattern measurements I was a size 10 hip and a size 12 waist .. nothing changes!! So I graded the pattern from a size 10 at the hip to a size 12 at the waist. Therefore my waistband was a size 12 also, and on checking the pocket lining placement I did not need to grade this as it fitted to the side seam at the hip and so was a size 10.

I also needed to shorten the pattern by 2 inches... I am 5'2" in height!

I made some minor hacks to the pattern adding a quilting weight cotton for a pop of colour to the inside pockets and also to the inside waistband and the hem, so reducing bulk at these seams.

Finally, a bit of topstitching for detail and some prym jeans buttons for hardware .... oh and some belt loops ... of course!

I think I will get a lot of wear out of this skirt, in the spring summer and also with boots in the winter! So it's a winner for me!! Why not give it a go? And if you're unsure or not confident then why not join one of our sewing classes? Just book online at New Forest Sewing Studio.

Happy Sewing!!
